Nobel win showcases Le Clézio

Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, or JMG Le Clézio to his friends, was one of Europe's great literary secrets until he won the Nobel Prize for Literature this week and became the book world's hottest property. The 68-year-old French author has more than 30 books to his name but many are out-of-print or simply hard to find. Le Clézio is a seasoned traveler and has an affinity for deserts, which sometimes feature in his writing. He is also prone to examining nomads, childhood memories and Native American mythologies.

Not all of his work has been translated from French but it is possible to find English versions of books such as Fever (1966), The Giants (1975), Onitsha (1997) and Wandering Star (2004). Since the Nobel announcement, the author's publishers have been scrambling to reissue his novels but Le Clézio's hard-to-find books are already selling quickly on AbeBooks.com with demand coming mainly from the United States.
